Feather Your Nest

One of the quickest and least expensive ways to add a touch of luxury to any room or event is with candles. We simply adore them -- as you can tell when visiting our shop -- because they provide gorgeous, mood-enhancing fragrance as well as a touch of romantic ambiance. Plus, a beautiful candle is a gift that's always appreciated and used.

We're thrilled to welcome NEST Fragrances & Candles to The Trove. Found in Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and specialty boutiques across the globe, we think we're in pretty good company. The NEST collection features fine fragrances for home and personal care products that will enhance your daily life as well as your adventures in entertaining. While we love each and every scent, the Orange Blossom has been a particular favorite this Spring!

NEST Fragrances has recently expanded their line to include Reed Diffusers, Liquid Soap, Body Wash, Body Cream and Eau De Toilette Spray, in addition to their cult-status candles. You simply must stop by to experience these delightful scents for home and body. With a multitude of scents, limited edition gift boxes and the supremely divine collaboration with Sir Elton John, you're sure to find something special for your nest.

Toast & Dragon Trunk Show

One of the things we love most at The Trove is introducing our customers to unique, handcrafted jewelry from talented artisans. We jump at the chance to throw trunk shows that enable us to offer not only even more amazing treasures but to host the passionate people behind the brands. This month, we're more than thrilled to present Toast & Dragon, by Boston-based fine jewelry designer, Denise Fenoglio.

Toast & Dragon celebrates the beauty of nature, conveyed via fine metals and gems, in organic shapes, colors and textures. Informed by her time living in France and her extensive European and Middle Eastern travels, along with her studies at the prestigious North Bennet Street School in Boston's historic North End, Fenoglio has created a gorgeous collection of feminine and expressive pieces. The designer chooses her materials from ethical and environmentally-sound sources and uses natural, non-enhanced precious and semi-precious gems in her designs. She finds inspiration for each one-of-a-kind piece from the stones themselves and looks to nature to inform the silhouette and final details.

Jewelry is more than just stylish adornment - it is deeply personal and can be a reflection of who we truly are. Along with treasured pieces from our jewelry boxes come stories about their origin, some passed down through generations. We hope you'll join us for this wonderful event with Denise and Toast & Dragon and perhaps add a new piece, and a new story, to your collection.

Meet Denise Fenoglio and experience Toast & Dragon on April 23rd from 1p to 8p, with wine and hors d'ouevres starting at 5p.

Spring Renewal

Springtime is all about renewal. Mother Nature comes out of hiding, making herself known by way of warm sunshine, budding flowers and chirping birds. In this spirit, we Trovesters are going through a renewal of our own. We're rebooting our blog so we can kick off Spring 2015 with fresh ideas and new perspectives. We have some exciting things planned and can't wait to share them with you, online and in store!

The fair will also have food provided by local restaurants, food trucks, and visiting vendors.  Ragin' Cajun will be gracing the back parking lot at Trove. Being hungry will not be an excuse to go home!

At Trove, the event will center around the Barn, right behind the store.  Follow the red brick walk to see new items from Revived Furniture and The Shed---two of our favorite vendors and some of our favorite people!  It's always fun to meet the folks who create the goods and who have the back story!

Found: Lou Zeldis

Since its inception, Trove has carried the products of Lou Zeldis, an artist and nomad.   Zeldis was born in America, and in his early years worked as a traveling theatre actor.   Zeldis' wanderlust took him all over the world, where he cultivated his personal collection to commemorate his travels.

These travel mementoes catalyzed his interest in jewelry, and soon after he began researching primordial charms, seeking to create his own. A self-trained artist, he was uninhibited by any kind of formulaic craft structure but instead preferred to experiment with the juxtaposition of different objects.  Think found stones and beach glass combined with 22k gold leaf and handmade silver chain.   A trip to the warehouse holding Lou's treasures can be daunting.  A room of Ikat textiles, a room of Balinese baskets, box after box of Batiks, not to mention the jewelry--it is an overwhelming, yet exhilarating task to sort through.  Just the sort of job we love to do!

Zeldis passed away in 2012.  He is consistently described as a man who's generosity and love for life was infectious, who rejoiced in the beauty of the world and of people.  Trove is proud to bring his magical jewelry, basketry, and textiles to our customers.  They are truly one-of-a-kind, last-of-their-kind items.

A Sunny Day in Roanoke

It really doesn’t get any better than this—a sunny fall day walking, visiting, and shopping in downtown Roanoke, IN.  I am pinching myself that our store, Trove, will soon be part of this beaten path.

Some of the sights of the village on Saturday mornings in the summer and fall—the Lion’s Club’s sausage/egg sandwiches (I usually smell them before I see them!), the yoga class letting out and succumbing to those sandwiches, Amish farmers selling home grown produce, Grandma Sue’s pies, La Dolce Vita’s fresh made crepes (today’s version was peach or strawberry), apples & apple cider, peppers every color of the rainbow from another local farm.  Top that off with the local shops being open—Joseph DeCuis Emporium, Moose & Mollies for gelato, Paper Moon for gifts and home décor, Crestwood Gallery’s latest fine art offerings, Peggy French-Deal’s studio open for business.  The list is longer and I hope to feature my fellow retailers and town characters in the future.

I ended my trip to Roanoke with a quick trip to Two EEs Winery to pick up a bottle of my favorite red and my favorite white.  A perfect way to end you visit, I must add!  800 Degrees portable wood fired pizza oven was just pulling up as I left.  The activities in Roanoke were just beginning.

Taking Shape

The building is taking shape.  Technically it is done; we have a certificate of occupancy.  But a certificate of occupancy does not a store make.  We have many, many tasks ahead of us, but for some reason they don’t feel like work.

Another big part of the pre-work we are doing is coming up with our store’s branding and identity pieces.  I’m learning so much by working with one of my cohorts who has a background in PR with the Denver Broncos!  (and a was in the army to boot, so I tend to listen when she speaks!).  Also, we have enlisted the help of a dear friend of my daughter’s, Anaîs.  This woman is a godsend—talented, creative, timely and responsive.  We’ve been doing most of our work via email and across a 3 hour time difference, but it hasn’t mattered a bit.

Here is a peek at our logo:

We hope you’ll visit us on or after November 8 to see it all come together!

Imaginary Store

I used to have a store—back in the ’90s.  It was fun and a headache and it  made me happy and frustrated.  I’ve always wanted to have another one and have toyed with the idea for years.  It got to be such an obsession that a dear friend started calling it my “imaginary store” to remind me that my thoughts were rather deluded.

Well, the imaginary store has some bones.  I got tired of talking about it.  Time to act.  Stay tuned for future updates but for now, here is a pic of it coming to fruition:

Bangkok Street Food

I am of the firm belief that some of the best food in Bangkok can be found on the street being sold by vendors set up on seemingly every corner.  I have sampled the most delicious coconut ice cream, served with coconut meat and chopped macadamia nuts and the tastiest “mini pineapple” which my daughter proclaimed was better than any candy.  The following pictures prove my point that whether it was from a cart on the street or inside a market or from a boat that was part of a floating market, food in and around Bangkok may be the best when you are looking at the person who prepared it!

If I could eat one thing over and over again, it would be this Pad Thai. With a Singha to wash it down!
